Sonic Adventure 2 Dreamcast Prototypes
The release of Sonic Adventure 2 coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Sega mascot, who first appeared in the United States on June 23, 1991!
Following an old tradition dating back to the time of Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive, Sonic Team was split into two entities, one in Tokyo and the other in San Francisco. The latter was responsible for over 80% of the production of Sonic Adventure 2.
Sonic Adventure 2 was much more incisive, beautiful, complete and fast than its predecessor released a few years earlier. The hedgehog had more movement and was capable of much more interaction with his environment. Sonic's graphics had vibrant colors, many special effects were introduced and the textures were even finer. The sixty second frame animation never slowed down despite the speed of movement!
On SOA1, the levels were scattered in a vast world. You had to solve puzzles, meet NPCs, it was really an adventure. Now the levels are linked together, interspersed with cutscenes.
Sonic Adventure 2 video prototype
It is possible to choose between two distinct scenarios: Hero and Dark. By choosing the camp of the good guys, the player will embody in turn Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. In the villains' camp, Robotnik, Shadow and Red were the stars.
Maybe the word Adventure doesn't suit this second episode of Sonic on Dreamcast.
The most interesting prototype

This prototype dated April 18, 2001 (3 months before its final version) and entitled Sonic Adventure 2 : Preview is a demo of Sonic Adventure 2 that was sent to the press to promote the game.

No icon is displayed on the VMU.

Characters have their first upgrade available from the start.

The "Mystic Melody" level is called "Ancient Melody".
