The French cancelled "The planet of the apes" on dreamcast !!!

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

Planet of the Apes is a multi-platform game, the same video game adapted to the technological capabilities of different consoles. The French studio "Visiware" was in charge of its development. It was to be released in the first quarter of 2001.

For convenience, the developers worked first on PC. The PS1 and DC versions were ports, very reduced in graphic resolution for the PSOne but identical for the Dreamcast.

The port to Sega's latest console was based on WindowsCE/DirectX and not on the native OS (the fastest solution but not the most efficient). The prototype offered a rather average refresh rate.

The DC version was cancelled for marketing reasons. The producer "Fox" thought that the game would not sell.

Although Visiware made daily updates, which were tested at once, Planet of Apes DC was cancelled rather quickly. The best Dreamcast version was not as good as the PC version.

The PC version was released early to coincide with the release of the movie. The PSOne port was polished for a few more months to coincide with Christmas!

In 1989 was released on Amiga, Atari ST and Commodore 64 "Stunt Car Racer", a cult game using 3D. For computer lovers, its prototype was ported in a super playable way to the classic Xbox!
