Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection for Dreamcast is finally available!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is an official compilation of thirteen video games from the famous "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise developed between 1989 and 1993 on the now vintage consoles: the Nintendo Nes, the Mega Drive, the Arcade System, the Super Nintendo and the Game Boy.

Konami understood the potential of publishing a compilation retracing the adventures of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo on current consoles. With a date of August 30, 2022, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles: The Cowabunga Collection was eagerly awaited to judge the quality of the software. The first reviews came in and they were positive for Digital Eclipse, the development studio in charge of the project.

A fascinating feature presented a virtual museum with unpublished development illustrations, sketches and conceptual material. This brilliant idea charmed lovers of old video games and historians of the video game industry.

If the game was released on all the machines of the market, one was missing, the Dreamcast. Unfortunately, Sega's white lady has been a dead console for 20 years and no publisher of Konami's stature would dare release a game on it. The question arose. How to play this excellent compilation on Dreamcast, the community wanting its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection?

Ian Michael, a friend who helps me regularly, had the solution: develop a homebrew on the model of the Japanese publisher. This is what he is proposing today with the help of one of his colleagues, Adam Burrell in the role of Game Artist, with the free release of his title that will revive Dreamcast fans!

What about this Dreamcast version ?

  • The emulation of Game Boy Advance games on Dreamcast being not perfect, this compilation doesn't include any.

  • We find all the Ninja Turtles games released on Super Nintendo, Nintendo Nes, Game Boy and Sega Megadrive (Genesis). Some titles, listed in Bonus by console, are fan games or remixes like "The Hyperstone Heist Remixed" on Megadrive.

  • Each game of the collection has its own icon for the VMU.

  • In the main menu, a VHS tape to select allows you to go to a sub-menu including videos such as old music videos featuring the Ninja Turtles from the movies of the nineties. Nine videos are available, ranging from cartoons to films from the 90s, Go Ninja Go Ninja GO!

  • Scans of the manuals for some of the games can be viewed. They are not necessarily complete but the main thing is there.

  • The loadings (NOW LOADING) when loading games are represented by a pizza.

To get an idea, it is best to download the ISO at this address:

Follow the links in the comments of the video to download the game. Beware, this Homebrew has been coded specifically to be played on a real console (CDI to burn), only the Demul emulator can run it and will allow you to test it. You will also be able to print your own cover in European, American and even Japanese format.

You can also follow the whole development process of the homebrew, with lots of explanatory videos, by browsing the topic of this forum : Update DREAMCAST TMNT Cowabunga Collection Out for christmas :)

Many thanks for this titanic project undertaken by Ian Michael and which took 5 months. Thanks also to the other people involved in the project under the banner "IMR technology".
